Airbnb, in conjunction with Harris Poll, conducted a survey to find out how families like to travel. The survey found that more than two in five, 43 percent, like to travel to new destinations each year.
At the same time, Airbnb identified some of its family-travel hot spots.
Topping the list was Japan, with Osaka and Kyoto in the number one and two spots on the list.
Melbourne, Australia was the third most popular destination for families followed by Malibu, Calif., and the adventurous city of Reykjavik, Iceland.

The survey revealed other patterns, including the fact that families are becoming more multigenerational when they travel. Thirty-four percent are traveling with grandparents and 20 percent include other families and friends.
Dads are also becoming more involved in the travel-planning experience, according to the survey. Forty-two percent say they plan the vacation.

Activities are big business. Nearly eight in 10 respondents said that they want to participate in a variety of activities such as cooking classes, rather than just hang around.
Lest you think all family travel traditions were transforming, the road trip is still going stronger than ever. Seventy-two percent of families say their next family vacation will be a road trip.
