Amazon is bringing the convenience of Alexa to hotels, vacation rentals and other hospitality locations, the company announced Tuesday.
Alexa for Hospitality is available to hospitality providers by invitation and will debut in select Marriott International properties beginning this summer.
The innovative hotel giant will roll out the voice-first Alexa experience at select properties under multiple brands, including Marriott Hotels, Westin Hotels & Resorts, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, Aloft Hotels and Autograph Collection Hotels.
With the Amazon Echo in their rooms, guests will be able to quickly and simply ask Alexa for hotel information such as pool hours and directions to the fitness center and even request guest services like housekeeping or room service.
Hotels can also configure Alexa to allow guests to control and adjust in-room devices such as lights, thermostats, blinds, and televisions.
What's more, Alexa for Hospitality will soon allow Amazon customers to temporarily connect their Amazon account to the Echo in their room, enabling them to stream their personal music and other content until check-out, when their account will be automatically disconnected.
"Customers tell us they love how easy it is to get information, enjoy entertainment and control connected devices by simply asking Alexa, and we want to offer those experiences everywhere customers want them," said Amazon Vice President Daniel Rausch in a statement. "Alexa for Hospitality makes your hotel stay a little more like being at home and gives hospitality providers new ways to create memorable stays for their guests."
"Marriott has a long track record of innovating for our guests, and we're thrilled to be among the first to offer Alexa for Hospitality," added Jennifer Hsieh, Vice President Customer Experience Innovation at Marriott. "So many of our guests use voice technology in their home, and we want to extend that convenience to their travel experience."
Hsieh said guests staying at the Charlotte Marriott City Center and Marriott Irvine Spectrum will be among the first to gain access and experience a curated list of Alexa for Hospitality features. "We will be evaluating guest feedback and adoption to inform how we expand the skills, features, and functionality offered through Alexa in our hotels," she added in a statement.
The JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa rolled out the Amazon Echo Dot as an in-room concierge in select rooms last year. Meanwhile, Red Roof and United Airlines have recently introduced their own Alexa skills.
