In honor of his contributions and dedication to the growth and development of Mexico's tourism industry, Gonzalo del Peón, president of AMResorts® and Unlimited Vacation Club®, was recognized with the prestigious “La Llave del Progreso” award in the Hotel Executive category. The award was presented by AMAIT Abastecedores Turísticos A.C at the opening of ABASTUR 2016 in Mexico City.
“I am proud to have received this important recognition from my peers and most importantly for having any part in contributing to the continued development of my country,” said del Peón. “These achievements were possible through the passion and dedication of every team member of the AMResorts family.

del Peón scope includes all areas of investor and owner relations, operations, sales and marketing innovation for the company’s 60 announced hotels, across six award-winning brands currently in 21 beach destinations throughout Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America. Additionally, he oversees Unlimited Vacation Club® (UVC), an elite benefits program for discerning travelers, which has grown to 47,000 members worldwide under del Peón.
Mexico’s Minister of Tourism Enrique de la Madrid Cordero along with Dr. David Babani, Chairman of AMAIT’s Board; Jaime Salazar, President of ABASTUR’s organizing committee; Lourdes Berho, Director of the Mexico Tourism Board; Miguel Torruco, Mexico City’s Tourism Secretary; Hugo Valera, CANIRAC President; and Joe Kadow, Chairman of the U.S. National Restaurant Association presented del Peón with the award.
The honor came two days after AMResorts announced the creation of a new role–Vice President of Global Sales and Business Development–to support the company’s unprecedented growth. Claudio Zboznovits, who was tapped to fill the position, will be responsible for leading and executing AMResorts’ strategic sales plans within the United States, Canada and international markets. Supported by existing market directors, he will establish and maintain relationships with executives and buyers, such as tour operators and online travel agencies across all market.

Previously, Zboznovitz served as the Corporate Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of BlueBay Hotels & Resorts. There, he was responsible for driving the company’s commercialization, growth and profitability strategy across key market segments. Zboznovitz will report to Colette Baruth, Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing, Revenue Management and Distribution, who will increasingly focus on brand development and infrastructure growth planning.
“Claudio’s precise blend of strategic thinking to drive sales make him an asset to AMResorts and allow us a greater focus on creating a stronger footprint in established and new markets as we grow our available inventory,” said Baruth.
Prior to joining AMResorts, Zboznovits held vice-presidential positions at Barceló Hotels & Resorts, and The Mark Travel Corporation.
