WHY IT RATES: Hawaii’s tropical paradise status means there’s stiff competition when it comes to accommodations — and per Conde Nast readers, Kaanapali has separated itself from the pack. -Michael Isenbek, TravelPulse Senior Editor
Conde Nast Traveler announced the results of its coveted 29th annual Readers’ Choice Awards today with Kaanapali Beach Hotel in Maui, Hawaii’s Most Hawaiian Hotel, earning the No. 5 “Top Hotel in Hawaii.”
“We are truly honored Kaanapali Beach Hotel has been voted as one of the top hotels on the beautiful island of Maui by the trusted readers of Conde Nast Traveler, and we are thankful to our most loyal guests and dedicated team members for making this recognition possible,” said General Manager Mike White. “We are grateful for our employees’ longstanding dedication to providing true Aloha service for our hotel guests, many of whom return year after year to build beautiful memories with their families. From our newly launched Hale Huakai ocean activities center and wide variety of complimentary cultural activities, we look forward to continuing to offer an authentic Hawaiian experience for years to come.”
The oceanfront, 432-room Kaanapali Beach Hotel places a strong emphasis on providing guests with rich and authentic cultural experiences. Guests enjoy an array of complimentary daily cultural activities and classes such as hula lessons, ukulele classes, cultural garden walks, nightly Hawaiian entertainment and culinary offerings with authentic flair.
Recently, the hotel launched its water activity center called Hale Huakai, that offers a Hawaiian perspective to several popular ocean activities such as surfing, stand up paddle boarding, snorkeling, conch shell blowing and more. To ensure the retention of its status as “Hawaii’s Most Hawaiian Hotel,” the hotel instituted a program called Pookela in 1986 to reinforce Hawaiian values in the hotel’s daily activities. Each year staff members are educated about Hawaii’s culture through classes that cover Hawaiian language, history, local plants, arts, song and other areas.
The Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards are the longest-running and most prestigious recognition of excellence in the travel industry and are commonly known as “the best of the best of travel.” Under Editor in Chief Pilar Guzman, the Readers’ Choice Awards have become more selective and specific to the passions that inspire today’s travelers. Over 300,000 dedicated readers — nearly twice as many as last year — cast votes for 7,394 hotels, 606 cities, 500 cruise ships and 236 islands.
The Readers’ Choice Awards are announced in the November issue of Conde Nast Traveler, on newsstands nationwide on Oct. 25, 2016. The full list is published exclusively online, at CNTraveler.com/rca.
