Protecting the smallest and most vulnerable members of a community is an important mission that virtually everyone would support.
Infant mortality is at a crisis point in many parts of the world, and urgent measures must be taken to turn things in the right direction. However, as with many worthy causes such as this, good intentions aren't enough. It takes resources and capital to fund programs that can accomplish big things.
That's where Couples Resorts and the support it provides can be a true lifesaver.
The Issa Trust Foundation, a non-profit organization established by Couples Resorts in 2005, is dedicated to supporting health promotion and education, community health improvement and other services to promote well-being and development for the people of Jamaica. High on the list of priorities is a focus on reducing infant mortality.
Many people-far too many-in Jamaica lack access to basic healthcare. This includes a large number of babies and expectant mothers. In areas such as this, lack of proper medical treatment and preventative services can greatly contribute to an increase in the infant mortality rate.
The Issa Trust Foundation takes a multi-faceted approach to combatting the issue of infant mortality, one that places a strong emphasis on medical education and training. The cooperation, support and input of healthcare professionals in the region are critical, as these care providers serve as the foundation of the treatment system, and also work directly with both patients and other medical professionals.
With input from these professionals, the Foundation has developed a medical/nursing education and training model designed to provide the best possible care and serve the residents of Jamaica. With regards to infant mortality specifically, this involves recruiting medical experts who can provide structured neonatal education courses directed towards Jamaican physicians, midwives and nurses. These courses span several days and include the opportunity for hands-on experiences, use of simulation scenarios and open-ended questions sessions.
The trainers also spend time onsite in the special care nurseries, working alongside the local staff members. This allows the trainers to gain insight as to the typical processes and identify opportunities for improved tactics and areas where there is a need for further training or resources. The program also enabled the development of protocols, checklists and system-based approaches that can be incorporated into the workflow in special-care nurseries.

Another core priority is the development and maintenance of a functioning, inexpensive and user-friendly platform for telemedicine. This will allow local medical professionals to consult with specialists around the world, while also ensuring that the medical personnel in Jamaica can conduct research that helps them stay informed on the very latest advancements and treatment methods.
Couples Resorts is dedicated to supporting worthy causes that help with important issues, particularly those issues that affect the people of Jamaica. Protecting infants and ensuring they can thrive in a healthy way is among the most important endeavors of their work through the Issa Trust Foundation. The company also encourages its guests and business partners to join their efforts by supporting the Foundation's work through donations, sponsorships or volunteer projects.
