Disney Parks to Kick off Summer with 24-Hour Celebrations
Memorial Day weekend and the unofficial start of summer is still more than two months away, but with high temperatures in the mid-80s in Orlando and low-90s in Southern California it's easy to see why Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort are counting the days.
This week, Florida's Walt Disney World Resort announced that it will kick off 2015's "Coolest Summer Ever" with a 24-hour celebration at the Magic Kingdom. The park will be open to guests from 6 a.m. on Friday, May 22 through 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 23.
The event will be hosted by the most beloved snowman since Frosty, Olaf from the animated hit "Frozen."
Disney character greetings and various dance parties are just some of the entertaining features guests can anticipate on top of the park's well-known rides, shows and other attractions.
In celebration of Wednesday's announcement and what's to come this summer, Disney Parks constructed a miniature Cinderella Castle out of sand on a makeshift beach in Boston, which has experienced near-record snowfall this winter.
"As you may have seen on ABC-TV’s 'Good Morning America,' we shared some true Disney magic in winter-weary Boston by creating a warm summer scene, inspired by Olaf’s 'In Summer' dream..." wrote Disney Parks social media director Thomas Smith in a Disney Parks blog post.
The video below shows the construction of the scene near historic Faneuil Hall:
Once the 24-hour event ends this Memorial Day weekend, Disney park guests can look forward to a handful of notable events scheduled for this summer. Highlights at Walt Disney World include "Frozen" Summer Fun LIVE from June 17 through Sept. 7 and Star Wars Weekends from May 15 through June 14.
Both events will take place at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
Meanwhile, across the country, California's Disneyland Resort will kick off its 60-year anniversary with its very own 24-hour event also scheduled for May 22-23. The Dimaond Celebration will begin at 6 a.m. PST on May 22 and will include the premiere of "Disneyland Forever" fireworks, the "Paint the Night" parade and "World of Color—Celebrate!" at the Disney California Adventure Park.
