Family Fun at the Jewel Runaway Bay Resort
As a couple you loved romantic vacations in Jamaica. Quiet days spent relaxing in your lounge chair, waves lapping at your feet, while you contentedly sipped a tropical cocktail and caught up on the latest New York Times Best Seller. A couple’s massage beachside, a few romantic dinners and some adventure thrown in for good measure, and you had the ideal vacation. Three kids later, you may be thinking that your perfect Caribbean vacations are a thing of the past. Think again. Jewel Runaway Bay Resort was recently named as one of the Top Hotels for Families in the Caribbean, by TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards for Hotels in 2015.
Scott Robbins, Jewel Runaway Bay's general manager, explains: “Every day is family day here at the resort, from our hour by hour activities program to our Red Ruby Ranch to our championship Runaway Bay Golf Club and now to the newly opened Jewel Lagoon Water Park…the only challenge for our guests is not enough time to enjoy everything!”
The 266-room all-inclusive resort, located just minutes from the Green Grotto Caves, offers a host of activities families can do together. From watersports, such as kayaking, snorkeling, glass-bottom boat rides (Kids Club) and Hobie Cat rides to beach volleyball, tennis and hiking, there’s more than enough to keep even the most high-spirited kid entertained. And what better way to bond as a family than with shared adventures such as swimming with the dolphins, exploring the Green Grotto Caves, zip lining or following in the footsteps of the famed Jamaican bobsledding team at the Bobsled Jamaica attraction?
The Jewel Lagoon Water Park may quite possibly be the piece de resistance for any youngster--and for those simply young at heart . This water park, with a 5,000-square-foot oceanfront sundeck and zero-entry beach lagoon (complete with geysers), is the perfect place to spend some quality time together as a family. Everyone will love the splash-down pools and lazy river, complete with rock grottos and waterfalls. Kids will thrill to the multi-level kids slides and splash zone, and the entire family will enjoy zipping along the speed slide and the family raft ride. All that adventure will work up an appetite. Luckily, the water park features a dining area with full-service bar and grill. Private cabanas are available for rent when it's time to take a break from the action.
And when mom and dad need some down time, there's The Jewel Runaway Bay Kids’ Club, which features five programs for kids from 18 months to 17 years old that are both fun and educational. Archery, hay rides, laser tag, basketball, tennis and movie nights make up a just a small sampling of the activities on offer. Located just off the lobby, Jewel Runaway Bay's Kid Lounge features board games and a daily activity board, listing the day's excursions and programs for children 11 and older. All activities are overseen by gem counselors, trained in first aid, CPR and AED, so parents can relax and enjoy their time in the sun. On-site nannies mean parents can extend their fun well into the evening.
