Westin Hotels & Resorts, the health and wellness-focused brand from Starwood Hotels and Resorts, has appointed another member to the Westin Well-Being Council ahead of a new well-being series that will kick off in April.
Health and fitness personality Holly Perkins, a certified strength and conditioning specialist and founder of Women’s Strength Nation, has been appointed as a board member of the Westin Well-Being Council and will host the Women’s Strength Nation LIVE retreat from April 10-12 at The Westin San Diego Gaslamp Quarter Hotel.
The first “Westin Wellness Escape” led by Perkins is part of Westin’s year-long “Well-being Movement.” Experts in the fields of mindfulness meditation, nutrition, yoga, running and more have been enlisted by Westin to lead the wellness retreats. The weekend-long strength training retreat for women in April will include educational sessions and fitness techniques and methods derived from Perkins’ Women’s Strength Nation platform “to discover personal strength through the development of outer strength,” via a release.
“The Westin Wellness Escapes series is designed to motivate and educate those seeking to achieve or sustain a healthy lifestyle while still exploring the world,” said Brian Povinelli, global brand leader for Westin. “Similar to Westin's collaboration with New Balance, Holly’s involvement in the program reinforces the Move Well philosophy and lets us further cater to the diverse needs of our guests.”
The Westin Jekyll Island in Georgia is also offering a 24-hour triathlon recovery retreat in May as part of its grand opening and sponsorship of the Jekyll Island Turtle Crawl Triathlon. The retreat will be led by runWESTIN Concierge Chris Heuisler from May 16-17 at the property. Once guests finish the Jekyll Island Turtle Crawl Triathlon, the retreat will begin, starting with a private tent for guests at the finish line. Activities will continue on and off the property until Sunday at check-out. Those who book the night of Saturday, May 16 will receive several amenities specifically designed for recovery after a race, as well as a curated schedule of recovery activities and educational talks.
In addition to hosting the Women’s Strength Nation LIVE retreat, Perkins—Westin’s new Move Well Advocate—has produced four strength training videos with exclusive content focusing on tips and tricks for staying fit while traveling. The four five-minute video segments introduce an equipment-free workout that can be done in the guest room or at home (video content is accessible via on-demand for free at more than 80 hotels across the country and on Westin’s YouTube channels and westin.com/hollyperkins).
It’s no wonder why Westin is introducing a series specifically catering to health and wellness travelers now. Wellness tourism is booming. According to the Global Wellness Tourism Economy Report, wellness tourism will grow by more than 9 percent each year through 2017, nearly 50 percent faster than global tourism as a whole.
The Wellness Escapes focus on Westin’s six pillars of well-being: Feel Well, Work Well, Move Well, Eat Well, Sleep Well and Play Well.
Perkins joins a Westin Well-being Council already composed of internationally-renowned dietician Ashley Koff, media mogul Arianna Huffington, and Headspace co-founder and meditation expert Andy Puddicombe, who will guide new initiatives and programs throughout 2015.
Additional Westin Wellness Escapes will be announced throughout the year. For more information, visit westin.com/wellnessescapes. Join the Westin Wellness Escapes conversation by using #westinwellbeing on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
