Foodies are in for more delicious family fun this summer as Mexico’s all-inclusive Velas Resorts lure with a new Picnic in Paradise concept, allowing guests to take each property’s culinary delights on the road.
Already known for its innovative culinary creations concocted with fresh local ingredients, the company has elevated its foodie focus on a gourmet cuisine-to-go option at the AAA Five Diamond Grand Velas Riviera Maya and Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit on Mexico’s Caribbean and Pacific Coasts, plus Casa Velas in Puerto Vallarta.
Playa del Carmen’s Grand Velas Riviera Maya will prep a basket of carefully selected gourmet foods that can be toted to enjoy on a day of exploring the destination. Picnic in Paradise pairs a bottle of red or white wine with four varieties of salads and house-made dressings, French cheeses and charcuterie, fresh baked artisanal baguettes, smoked salmon, and a savory selection of Executive Chef Michel Mustiere’s roast beef, fresh roasted turkey breast and duck terrine — a showcase of his exclusive recipes.
Active guests can also count on nibbles and condiments that include capers, olives, grapes and pickles. As “icing on the cake,” dessert options vary with daily chef creations. The Picnic in Paradise offering is complimentary in Grand Velas Riviera Maya’s nightly rate.
In Puerto Vallarta, Casa Velas kicks it up a notch with baskets themed for those into wellness, as well as those with vegan and British palates. Ranging from $280-$400, picnics are accompanied by music (a live trumpeter with the Wellness Picnic), a bottle of Dom Perignon or Moet & Chandon Champagne, fresh juice, and sparkling and still water.
Guests are asked to pre-order their Picnic in Paradise baskets 48 hours in advance of their offsite adventure. In addition to plates, cutlery, linen napkins and glassware, baskets also indulge with a large blanket for seating and cushions for lazing in comfort.
As the summer winds down, your clients can still tap into value-added inclusions and other hot deals. Family-friendly resorts offer a Summer Camp Welcome Kit for kids that includes a t-shirt, hat, backpack and more.
Kids are amply appeased with mini-golf, bungee trampoline, water balloon wars, foam parties, baking and cooking classes, and horseback riding. Teens can tap into dedicated lounges covering it all from slot machines, video games and karaoke to special activities like non-alcoholic mixology classes and urban dance classes.
At night, parents escape at themed parties like salsa dancing classes, mezcal and tequila tastings, martini and hookah parties, and Fondue and Paella night. Families can then reconvene and enjoy everything from eco-cycling tours and drive-in movie night to picnic parties and sushi making.
Summer also sizzles with Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit’s $50 spa or golf credit per adult nightly, plus a 10 percent resort boutique discount. Adult travelers are welcomed with a complimentary double upgrade from Ambassador to the adults-only Grand Class section through Dec. 19, 2016.
In addition to its full roster of special activities, Velas Vallarta offers family guests a 10 percent discount on nightly rates, city tour and cultural tour, two-for-one special for kids ages 5-17 and $30 spa credit per adult per night.
Velas Resorts’ special summer activities are available on select dates in August. Based on availability, Casa Velas activities are ongoing throughout the season. Along with special summer programming, Velas Resorts all-inclusive rates include luxury suite accommodations, premium branded beverages, a la carte gourmet meals, fitness center use, 24-hour in-suite service, taxes and gratuities.
