Hotel Getaways: New York City

Autumn is falling upon us, and it’s a good time for leisure travelers to get their lodging on, now that school is back in session for virtually all grades, and the high demand summer vacation season is now in the rearview. This week I’ve got some deals in the two of New York City’s five boroughs: escape to Brooklyn or stick around and (as the old song goes) turn Manhattan into an isle of joy.
Fall in Love with Brooklyn at a choice of Greenpoint hotels
Three boutique hotels in Brooklyn, The Box House Hotel, The Henry Norman, and Franklin Guesthouse are offering the Falling In Love With Brooklyn Package this fall, which includes accommodations in a standard room, dinner for two at The Brooklyn Lantern to enjoy a special menu that focuses on farm-fresh fall ingredients artfully molded into a shareable appetizer, two entrees, and one dessert, and the option to pre-book a tour of the neighborhood to view the foliage. With three distinct characters and bespoke design to enjoy in each, it’s easy to pick a hotel that fits your own personal aesthetic.
For extra panache, that tour will be driven in one of the hotels’ restored 1970s checker cabs or a BMW SUV. The package is available through Oct. 30 for arrivals before Nov. 30. To book, call the hotel directly and ask for the package by name. Rates start at $349 for the first night, additional nights (without dinner) can be booked from $279.
Find Sanctuary in Manhattan end enjoy an autumn tasting menu
For those looking to spend time in the midst of the Big Apple, Sanctuary Hotel in Manhattan’s Theatre District is offering the Fall Into The Big Apple Getaway Package. In addition to accommodations, the package includes a tasting menu with a bottle of red wine at the hotel’s Asian-fusion Tender Steak & Sushi. A must-see item to check out is The Haven Rooftop, where it’s hard not to feel like a master of the universe.
The package is also available by calling the hotel directly and referencing by name. Rates start at $449 per night and can be booked through Oct. 30.
Spend an epic night in at the Waldorf
The Waldorf-Astoria is one of Manhattan’s iconic hotels (it has a salad named after it, among other things). For those wanting to take full advantage of time in the room to rest and nest, the Waldorf is offering the Night In At The Waldorf package, with rates from $315 for the weekend of Sept. 17 (the package is available for stays through Feb. 27) and includes accommodations in a superior room or higher and two in-room movies for a night of binge-watching.
For those wanting to venture outside the room, but not outside the hotel, Friday and Saturday nights bring magician Steve Cohen, who recreates the intimacy of a 19
th century parlor performance in one of the hotel’s suites. Spectacle aside, it’s an opportunity to spend a few hours in one of the hotel’s opulent suites for far less than the nightly rate.
Whether you’re rubbing shoulders with urban creatives in Brooklyn or spending some quality time with a comfortable hotel room and a stack of movies, New York has plenty to offer all comers.
