Hotels around the globe are embracing teambuilding activities, offering group guests a variety of ways to improve chemistry, communication and trust.
Here are just a few of the ways this new trend is emerging.
Canoe Building in Hawaii
Where: Hilton Hawaiian Village; Honolulu, Hawaii
What better setting to construct a canoe with your co-workers than Hawaii's Waikiki Beach?
Currently, the Hilton Hawaiian Village is offering group canoe building, where team members use simple materials like cardboard and plastic to build a canoe from scratch. But the finished product isn't just for show. To provide additional incentive to work together, the group will test the canoe in the hotel's beautiful but safe Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon.
Put a Bicycle Together in Orlando
Where: Waldorf Astoria Orlando and Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek; Orlando, Florida
They say that one never forgets how to ride a bike. But building one requires a bit more knowledge. Therefore, a group is poised to fare much better than an individual at the build-a-bike breakout sessions offered by the Waldorf Astoria Orlando and Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek.
The two Florida hotels offer a bike building activity for groups that requires members to work together to solve puzzles in order to unlock the resources necessary to construct the bike.
Sculpting Workshops in Key West
Where: Casa Marina, A Waldorf Astoria Resort; Key West, Florida
Working together successfully requires patience, and few activities require as much patience as sand sculpting.
In Key West, Florida, Casa Marina boasts a resident sculptor who leads groups in sand sculpting workshops. Here, group members will work together to build various sand sculptures ranging from simple castles to complex murals.
Go Kart Challenge in New York
Where: Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina; Montauk, New York
At New York's Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina, groups have the opportunity to build a one-person go kart and then race it on a designated course. What's more, groups will compete against one another, with the group that posts the fastest time prevailing.
"The teams will compete two at a time and the two losing teams will have another race to determine third place," the resort's website states. Keep in mind that points will also be awarded for creativity and design.
In addition to go kart Building, the resort offers scavenger hunts, sand castle building and kayaking for groups.
