IHG Bulking Up in Mexico, Latin America & The Caribbean
Garnering a reputation as one of the world’s leading hotel companies, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) continues to ramp up its growth with the expansion of its brands in the Caribbean, Latin America and Mexico. The Carrollton, Texas-based hospitality company currently has 40 new properties in the works that will add some 6,000 rooms to the region’s inventory during the next few years.
IHG’s Crowne Plaza and InterContinental brands are gaining momentum throughout the region, while midscale Holiday Inn Express and Holiday Inn are providing additional fuel. According to the IHG, this growth is anchored by “strong relationships with existing owners, as well as new entities entering the hotel-ownership arena.”
“We are very pleased that both our long-standing as well as new ownership groups continue to see the value of IHG-branded hotels,” said Jorge Apaez, IHG chief operating officer, Mexico, Latin America and Caribbean. “Our brands continue to serve the growing number of both business and leisure travelers in the region. This is particularly true of our Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express brands which are ideally suited for the modern-day traveler.”
Apaez adds that the rapid growth of these brands – alongside the IHG Rewards Club program – is an example of how IHG continues to positively impact the hotel industry in Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean. “As the international hotel company with the longest track record of success in the region, we look to further growing our number of hotels and provide the unparalleled experience that exceeds the expectations of today’s travelers,” he said.
In 2016, IHG bolstered its presence with Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites in Mexico, and has opened a Holiday Inn Resort in Mazatlan. The Crowne Plaza brand is also flexing its Mexico muscle with two newly signed properties in San Miguel Allende and Chihuahua.
Holiday Inn Mazatlan
With 164-rooms offering Pacific Ocean views and easy access to the Mazatlan Malecon, Holiday Inn is the newest beachfront property in Mazatlan’s Golden Zone. Views also encompass the World Heritage Site of Deer Island that appeals with its tranquil beach for sunning and snorkeling.
Business and leisure travelers can enjoy such onsite amenities as Copala Restaurant, Bar La Vinata, Skybar El Vigia adjacent to the property’s modern SkyGym, Copala Ballroom, a business center and complimentary Internet.
Additional destination diversions include Plazuela Machado, Aquarium Mazatlan, Angela Peralta Theater, Archaeological Museum, shopping malls, a city forest and visits to rural villages like El Quelite with its award-winning El Meson de los Laureanos restaurant. From November-March, blue and humpback whales add to the local flavor.
