Japan's largest hospitality company, APA Hotel, announced it has begun a joint venture with U.S.-based real estate investment company Friendwell Group of Companies that will see its entry into and subsequent expansion in the U.S.
APA (Always Pleasant Amenity) Hotel confirmed the news in a press conference held in New York Thursday afternoon.
The company, which boasts a whopping 347 properties in its home country, unveiled plans for rapid expansion in the U.S., planning to take hold of 100 properties within the next five years.
APA Hotel will make its American debut at the site of the former Hilton Woodbridge in New Jersey.
The 200-room APA Hotel Woodbridge is slated to open Friday. The hotel will remain open during extensive renovation and redesign to guest rooms, suites, the lobby and all public areas. The property's public areas are scheduled to be completed by next summer, while the revamped guestrooms will be ready to go in spring 2017.
New features will include 30,000 square feet of conference facilities, a Japanese restaurant and a full service bar.
"APA set the trend in Asia and Japan for the creation of new urban style hotels with core values steeped in high quality, high functionality and environment-friendly amenities," APA Group and APA Hotel founder Toshio Motoya said in a statement. "Our amenities that are usually found in five-star hotels offer excellent value at APA Hotel's three- and four–star properties."
Moving forward, the new APA Hotel Franchise will be based out of Delaware.
"While the APA organization will introduce its Japanese culture and high-level service to the U.S. market, Friendwell's diverse group of U.S. hotels have achieved great success in blending Asian and American cultural touchpoints, which creates a perfect synergy for our new U.S. partnership — APA Hotel Franchise," Friendwell Group of Companies Chairman Tsun-Jen Cheng said in a statement.
Taiwan ambassador to New York Paul Wen-Liang Chang called the joint venture "ground-breaking" and said it "signals a new era of innovative hospitality in the U.S."
Priding itself on comfort and affordability, APA Hotel has succeeded over the course of several decades in the industry by fulfilling its "Best for the Guest" motto.
Originating in Taiwan, New Jersey-based Friendwell Group of Companies boasts a real estate portfolio that includes a hotel inventory comprising more than 3,000 rooms in the U.S., including Hilton, IHG and Wyndham properties.
