There are tourists who just want to vacation on the beach and soak in their surroundings and there are others who prefer once-in-a-lifetime adventures during their time away. Known for its exquisite beaches and luscious parkland, Guanacaste is one of the most beautiful cities in Costa Rica that can give travelers the best of both worlds otherwise known as the ‘Pura Vida’ or pure life, laid back atmosphere.
For example, guests staying at the JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa, the only luxury resort in Hacienda Pinilla, Costa Rica, enjoy the hotel’s partnership with Origen Escapes, a company that personalizes thrill-seeking adventures. Rafters can experience the breathtaking 67-mile Pacuare River, which borders the Talamanca Mountain Range and is considered one of the most popular locations for white water rafting, kayaking and riverboarding. On a King Air private jet journey, guests enjoy a canopy tour and rappelling, and may even spot parrots, toucans, deer, jaguars, ocelots and monkeys.
There are also up-close and personal trips with mammals, as guests can choose to use search planes and boats to find a Super Pod of Spinner Dolphins, and then embark on a luxury vessel to watch thousands of them congregate in the waters. A gourmet lunch and deep sea fishing tops out the experience.
JW Marriott Guanacaste is located only a 15-minute ride downtown to Tamarindo, a town located on the Nicoya Peninsula on the Northern Pacific coast that is known for surfing and eco-tourism. Guests can also enjoy one of the five nearby beaches in the area, including Avellanas, Playa Negra, which is popular with the surfers and kayakers; Playa Carbon, a black sand beach; Playa Conchal known for its sand with hundreds of millions of tiny crushed shells or; Playa Real which lies close to Playa Conchal and the Marino Las Baulas National Park.
Take a day trip to the nearby Palo Verde National Park and embark on a thrilling zip-line adventure. When the hunger pangs strike, the resort has five restaurants and two bars, including Azul Grill, its beach-front restaurant; Tamarine, with Asian fusion cuisine; and Sabanero, a genuine Guanacastecan Steakhouse.
Guests can also find their peace and tranquility in a menu of spa services that include body scrubs, massages and therapy baths.
From the adventurous to the tranquil and everything in between, locations such as Guanacaste, Costa Rica provide everything a vacationer wants and then some.
