As it nears the end of a year that included the debut of several new resorts and the addition of overwater bungalows at El Dorado Maroma in the Riviera Maya, Karisma Hotels & Resorts said it plans to add nine resorts to its portfolio of 26 properties — virtually doubling its room count from 4,592 to 9,424 by 2021.
The announcement was made during the company’s ninth annual Gourmet Inclusive Vacation Consultant event for its high-producing agents at the El Dorado Resort in the Riviera Maya.
Most notably, Karisma plans to significantly extend its reach beyond Mexico. “We are really going to raise the bar in the Caribbean,” said Daniel Scheiman, Karisma’s senior business development manager. The company will open a 400-room in Antigua, three hotels/1,749 rooms in Jamaica and two hotels/ 890 rooms in the Dominican Republic.
The Antigua property is set to debut in 2018. The first of the three Jamaican hotels, an Azul Beach-branded resort in Negril, is scheduled to open its doors in May 2017. “Every single one of those rooms will have an ocean view,” Scheiman said of the Jamaica property. The first of the Dominican properties, Sensimar Cap Cana, will come online in 2018.
