Las Ventanas Ups the Ante on Luxury
Exceeding the expectations of ultra-luxury travelers is arguably a challenging proposition, but Las Ventanas al Paraiso’s managing director believes the Los Cabos resort did just that when it reopened in early June with a slate of new services and amenities.
“The guest reaction to the enhancements we’ve made to Las Ventanas has been extremely positive,” said Frederic Vidal, adding that the Rosewood resort, which had been closed in the aftermath of Hurricane Odile, boasts a repeat guest percentage of 40 percent. “We haven’t made any monumental changes to the resort, but rather took the existing Las Ventanas that our guests have known and loved for almost 20 years and improved upon the details.”
The enhancements to the resort, which includes just 83 suites and villas, include a new experiential activities program and the addition of villa hosts to the resort’s 12 Signature Villas. “We attract a very high-end guest who is more interested in discovering the destination and enjoying authentic and memorable experiences than having a cookie-cutter stay at a luxury resort,” he said. “They like their vacations to be personalized and tailored to their exact likes and dislikes, and they want to be surprised along the way. Our staff have been trained to intuitively notice and cater to guests’ specific needs, and as such, provides guests with an experience they’ll never forget.”
In Vidal’s view, the new experiential activities programs serve as the resort’s most notable enhancement. “We want to give our guests a truly authentic experience while on property, while also encouraging them to explore the wonders of the Baja region,” he said.
The summer activities collection incudes a cooking class in the pre-Hispanic technique of barbacoa, a personalized tequila tasting and consultation with Tequila Master, a Baja treasure hunt, the chance to create a pearl at Baja’s only pearl farm and new dog butlers who cater to canine guests.
Winter programming will include an ultra-luxury whale safari, a Sea of Cortez diving excursion, tea bath featuring Bvlgari products and a kids’ cooking program. The programming will include an option that provides Signature Villa guests with exclusive access to El Cardonal, Tiger Woods’ new golf course, and the Davis Love III Dunes Course.
For their part, the new villa hosts significantly elevate the resort’s roster of service offerings. “The service at Las Ventanas al Paraiso is one of its most distinguishing factors, and is something that we also focused on during the closure,” said Vidal. “For our guests staying in these villas, they are granted one villa host, or one single point of contact throughout their entire stay.”
The villas hosts are focused entirely on accommodating the needs and requests of these guests. “While guests at other resorts may have multiple butlers, housekeepers, cooks and other service staff surrounding them at all times, Signature Villa guests only need to contact one individual to get anything they need – from breakfast cooked in-villa each morning to outings on Las Ventanas’ luxury yacht to turndown service and other various needs,” Vidal said. “Our villa hosts spent months training in all hotel categories – housekeeping, culinary and languages – and can intuitively cater to guests’ every need.”
In other developments, The Restaurant, one of the property’s three dining venues, reopened with a new concept.
“The new menu was inspired by our culinary team members’ most-cherished family recipes from around Mexico and brings guests on a culinary journey through the many regions of Mexico,” said Vidal, noting that all dishes are served family style. “The new concept is more than just a menu – it’s an experience.”
The resort’s geographical mix of guests, meanwhile, is becoming increasingly more diverse. “Internationally, more and more Australian guests are visiting Las Ventanas, and many other guests come from France and Italy,” said Vidal. “We recently trained our villa hosts in French and Italian so that they can communicate with our growing number of international clientele.”
The lion’s share of Las Ventanas’ business is generated from U.S. markets.
“Due to the ease of airlift, Los Angeles and Dallas are our largest markets,” he said. “We also see huge numbers of guests from Chicago, New York City, Atlanta and Northern California.”
Since the resort has reopened, business has been strong, Vidal said. “We anticipate it continuing this way throughout the remainder of the year and into 2016.”
