With the colder temperatures invading U.S. cities, hotel and resorts in several Latin American countries are offering travel deals warm enough to chase away any winter blues. The deals combine free nights and special amenities, facilities and services with fascinating culture, distinctive cuisine and an array of sun-fun adventure activities.
Boutique resorts in several Central American countries that have in recent years emerged as popular destinations for adventure-oriented U.S. travelers are offering packages that pair superior accommodations with intriguing cultural exploration.
Casa Palopo on Guatemala’s Lake Atitlán is offering a “Colorful, Cultural Guatemala” package that includes three nights at the property plus private car transportation to and from Guatemala City; an excursion to the public market at Chichicastenango (available Thursdays and Sundays); and boat tours to the towns of Santiago and San Antonio Palopó located across the lake.
Ringed by majestic volcanoes, Lake Atitlán is Central America’s deepest at an average of 720 feet deep and is a central feature in the life of the surrounding Mayan villages. The package also includes one night at Casa Palopó’s sister property, Villa Antigua in Antigua, Guatemala, plus breakfast and a walking tour of the colonial city. Travelers who book stays of four nights or more by Dec. 31 receive discounted rates starting at $375 night, double occupancy.
In Costa Rica, the Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa is offering “Take Me to the Springs” packages featuring three nights for the price of two plus a $75 spa credit, one dinner and unlimited access to the resort’s thermal springs. Guests who book stays by December 17 are eligible for the package.
Another Central American property, Panama’s Westin Playa Bonita is offering a “Family Package” featuring 50 percent off an additional room, plus discounted rates of $220 per night and free meals for kids for travelers who book by Dec. 31.
Located outside of Panama City, the waterfront property features a private beach and infinity pools that offer views of ships waiting to enter the Panama Canal. The resort’s family features activities ranging from stargazing and storytelling to Spanish lessons and beach Olympics.
The JW Marriott El Convento in Cusco, Peru is offering “You Are Here” packages featuring nightly rates starting at $152 per night for Classic Inca Wall accommodations plus a $30 daily resort credit to guests who book stays of three nights or more by March 31, 2017. The packages include daily breakfast for two adults and two children, 10 percent off daily at the hotel’s Pirqa Restaurant, early check-in and late check-out plus a $30 daily resort credit.
The hotel is also located on Cusco’s Plaza de Armas, the city’s historic center which features sites including the Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús, originated by 16th century Jesuits on the foundations of the palace of the Inca ruler Wayna Qhapaq.
The historic capital of the Incan Empire between the 13th and 16th centuries and a UNESCO a World Heritage Site, Cusco is a traditional starting point for excursions to the Machu Picchu archaeological site. The site is located a short train ride from the hotel.
