Marriott, Starwood Kick Off Merger with Dual-Branded Denver Hotel

One day after Marriott International's blockbuster acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, the two companies began construction on a unique co-branded project.

White Lodging announced Tuesday that it's developing an 18-story hotel in downtown Denver that will comprise an AC Hotel by Marriott and a Le Meridien Hotel — a brand Starwood acquired back in 2005.

The Le Meridien Denver and AC Denver will combine to offer 495 rooms, with an opening scheduled for late summer 2017.

The dual-branded hotel will also boast an ideal location for business travelers. Located at the center of Denver's business district, guests will only be one block away from the Colorado Convention Center.

Upon opening, White Lodging will manage the development.

"Today we broke ground on what will be the first ground-up constructed, dual-branded hotel with the AC and Le Meridien combination at 15th and California in downtown Denver," said White Lodging senior vice president and chief revenue officer Chris Anderson in a statement. "To an ownership group like White Lodging, it means greater service through sharing resources, more room type and price point options as well as cost efficiencies in not having two sales teams, two GM's, two housekeeping staffs, etc. as the two brands would have required us to do so, with the merger, this may no longer be the case."

In addition to independent design, each hotel will have its own entrance, lobby and food and beverage outlets.

Meanwhile, Le Meridien will feature a full service restaurant, a 5,000-square-foot ballroom, business and meeting space as well as a 24-hour fitness center.

"Since Starwood acquired Le Meridien ten years ago, the company has made significant investments to develop the brand, which connects with guests through the art, culture and cuisine in key cities around the world," Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts' global brand leader Brian Povinelli said in a statement. "We think these passion points are sure to resonate with Denver visitors and local residents alike."
