WHY IT RATES: It’s heartbreaking when a child is inflicted with a serious disease, so anything Palace Resorts and partners can do to bring some sunshine into their lives is definitely appreciated. -Michael Isenbek, TravelPulse Senior Editor
Palace Resorts — the company that sets the standard in five-star, all-inclusive resort accommodations — is pleased to announce the brand’s philanthropic organization, The Palace Foundation, granted its 150th “dream” in collaboration with Fundacion Dr. Sonrisas, a non-profit organization that seeks to exchange children’s pain and suffering for moments of hope, fun and happiness, and Mexican air carrier, Volaris.
Six children and their families flew in a Volaris aircraft filled with incredible surprises to enjoy a week at the AAA Four Diamond Moon Palace Cancun and see the ocean for the first time.
There are several different diseases that seriously affect children in Mexico. According to a number of studies conducted by the National Autonomous University of Mexico, cancer is the second cause of death in this population group, with around 7,000 children being diagnosed with cancer every year. In these cases, it is important to strive to cure the disease but it is also very important to ensure the child’s emotional state is positive.
The Palace Foundation, Dr. Sonrisas and Volaris joined forces to support children who suffer from cancer and to fulfill their biggest dreams by providing them moments of happiness during their treatment. To date, through different programs like “Cumplimientos de Suenos” or “Dream Fulfillment,” the partners have been able to fulfill 150 childrens’ dreams of seeing the ocean for the first time.
The Palace Foundation is committed to solving social issues in the local community in which Palace Resorts’ properties are located. “Dreams” is one of five action-oriented committees that make up the organization, dedicated to fulfilling the wishes of children facing hardships. Last year, the Palace Foundation opened an orphanage, Casa Hogar, with the mission to provide a place to better childrens’ life conditions through education, health services, special care, psychological care, educational and recreational activities.
“At Palace Resorts, we have an obligation to be a company that is socially responsible and that works hard to make a positive impact on the communities in which we are located. The Palace Foundation has worked tirelessly to further enhance the lives of those less fortunate, and we are honored to partner with Volaris and Dr. Sonrisas to realize the dreams of these terminally ill children who wish to see the ocean and enjoy an unforgettable family vacation,” said Gibran Chapur, Executive Vice President of Palace Resorts. “We look forward to continuing to work alongside our partners, Volaris and Dr. Sonrisas and other organizations, to make the next 150 dreams come true.”
“Volaris is a company in favor of life itself, as we consider it a fundamental human right, and it is because of this that we support programs and projects such as the ones Dr. Sonrisas puts forward. At Volaris, we are very proud of reaching this milestone along with Dr. Sonrisas and the Palace Foundation and also of being able to bring benefits to so many people. As a socially responsible company for the past seven years, we care to make a change in the communities we operate in, a reason why we’ve traveled 1.4 million kilometers making dreams come true,” said Marcela Sanchez, Volaris’ CSR Manager.
“It’s an honor to celebrate such a unique achievement in Mexico. Thanks to our valued partners, we have changed the lives of 150 children by giving them the happiness and strength to endure and see the ocean for the very first time,” said Andres Martinez, Founder and President of Dr. Sonrisas. “I would like to express my gratitude to the Palace Foundation and Volaris for helping us fulfill these dreams, and I am confident that events such as these strengthen our partnership — one that I am sure will celebrate more milestones in the near future. Together, we will continuously demonstrate that happiness is the best medicine.”
In addition to the incredible surprises that the children and their families enjoyed on their Volaris flight to Cancun, during their one-week stay they will have the chance to enjoy Moon Palace Cancun’s unmatched family-centric amenities and attractions including “The Playroom,” Wired Teen Lounge, multiple pools, nightly entertainment and more.
The Palace Foundation and Dr. Sonrisas will continue to work together to help those that need their support and will remain committed to serving the emotional well-being of Mexico’s ill children, an essential aspect for a successful recovery.
