RIU Presents 'Green&Human' Video on World Environment Day
On the occasion of World Environment Day, RIU Hotels & Resorts has released its animated presentation, called ''Green&Human." The video shows RIU's day-to-day commitments and goals when it comes to running a responsible business, by focusing on three main areas: the environment, society and its own team of people.
In this way, RIU has joined in the celebration of World Environment Day (WED), the largest international celebration calling for positive action in this field and which this year focuses on an efficient use of resources and sustainable consumption and production with the theme: Seven Billion Dreams; One Planet; Consume with Care.
As well as screening the video "Green&Human" at its hotels on the date of WED, the Spanish chain has organized a great number of activities related to the environment and the efficient management of resources for the next few days. For example, the Riu Don Miguel in Gran Canaria will host an exhibition about how to reuse waste, while guests of the ClubHotel Riu Guarana will be shown the hotel’s different technical areas, where they will learn about the chain's contribution in terms of energy management.
In Mexico, where RIU runs 17 hotels, actions will focus on minimizing energy consumption by turning off lights and saving water. In Panama, workers and guests of the Riu Playa Blanca will plant new palm trees in the beach area and light pollution will be reduced as much as possible.
In RIU's Wildlife Refuge in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, hotel guests and workers will plant trees and clean Matapalo Beach. Moreover, the staff of both hotels and neighboring communities, including schools and community-support associations, will work together to clean a 13-kilometre-long public street. Banners with information for guests on good environmental practices will be put up and funds will be raised for FONAFIFO, an organization that works for the protection of Costa Rican forest, water and biodiversity.
In Boavista, Cabo Verde, the hotels ClubHotel Riu Karamboa and Riu Touareg, along with BIOS.CV, an NGO devoted to the protection of turtles, have organized for this week activities for children that aim to make them aware of the need to protect turtles. RIU helps BIOS.CV both logistically and economically to preserve this beautiful animal in Cabo Verde, which biologists consider to be the world's third most important site in terms of the nesting population of the Caretta Caretta turtle. Besides, on the occasion of World Oceans Day, which is to be held in a few days’ time, guests and workers will clean the seabed from different boats provided by Scuba Caribe.
