Sandals Whitehouse European Village & Spa recently played host to the 6th Annual Sandals Resorts Home Based Conference (Oct. 15-19), welcoming 115 hosted agents to the 360-room resort located on a 500-acre oceanfront nature preserve. The four-day event featured a variety of education and training sessions, as well as familiarization tours of the Sandals Resorts and Beaches Resorts in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
Delegates were also given plenty of free time to explore and discover for themselves why Sandals was recently recognized in this year’s Conde Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Awards. A special guest appearance from Gary Sadler, vice president of sales for North America, was, for many, the highlight of the event. Sadler, who traveled from Miami just to speak at the conference, shared with the audience his immense passion for Sandals Resorts and reiterated the brand's dedication to the travel agency community.
The group of home-based agents was able to take part in the conference’s first social media seminar. Taught by Rissie Demeritte, senior online community coordinator for Unique Vacations, the session gave agents the tools they need to succeed in utilizing social media, not only to promote their agency and their brand, but to reach new markets and better engage and serve their existing clientele.
Agents who attended were encouraged to "Pack for a Purpose," a Sandals Foundation event in which attendees bring a child's backpack filled with supplies to donate to area schools. As a result of this initiative, more than 115 children will be heading off to school with some of the basics so many others take for granted. Children from Ferris Primary School were on hand to accept the donation and gave agents a special performance, along with handmade thank-you cards.
In order to better familiarize themselves with the various Sandals properties across the island, agents were able to explore several properties, taking note of the various differentiators that make each property as unique as the people who stay there. Agents were also able to take advantage of a dine-around that showcased several of the restaurants at Sandals Whitehouse. A final cocktail reception and dinner rounded out the event.
Next year’s 7th Annual Sandals Resorts Home-Based Conference will take place on Oct. 13-17, 2016, at Sandals Royal Bohemian Spa Resort & Offshore Island.
