With more guests valuing independent properties these days, Tribute Portfolio—a Starwood Hotels & Resorts brand—announced its debut in Europe today with the addition of the Great Northern Hotel in London.
The Great Northern Hotel, a King’s Cross London landmark, represents the second official property in the Tribute Portfolio collection, with two future properties planned for Coral Gables and Fort Lauderdale in Florida.
The new property upholds Tribute Portfolio’s commitment to providing for the growing number of guests who desire “independent, yet dependable high-end travel experiences,” according to a release.
“We are delighted to welcome the Great Northern Hotel as the first Tribute Portfolio property in Europe,” said Dave Marr, global brand leader for Tribute Portfolio and Sheraton Hotels & Resorts. “The hotel has been designed with such meticulous attention to detail, and we’re excited to partner alongside Mr. Jeremy Robson as he continues to bring his independent vision to life.”
The upscale Great Northern Hotel, which first opened in 1854, was chosen by the brand for a number of reasons, including: its exterior architecture; the luxurious Cubitt Room; its whimsical luggage and door tags; the King’s Cross Kiosk (featuring roast meat sandwiches); its self-serve Pantry; its Plum + Spilt Milk restaurant (featuring fine British cuisine); and the GNH Bar (featuring a glamorous design and offering the signature Lady Violet cocktail).
“Since our launch in 2013, the Great Northern Hotel has become one of London’s finest boutique hotels,” said Robson, owner of the Great Northern Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel. “The restoration of the property was a dream of mine for many years, and together with my excellent team, I am incredibly proud to have created something of real value: a London landmark serving both visitors and Londoners alike. Today, our award-winning hotel joins Tribute Portfolio and the prestigious Starwood collection. We are looking forward to building on our success with this powerful brand whilst maintaining everything that makes the Great Northern Hotel a unique and much-loved property. ”
“Tribute Portfolio is just the latest example in Starwood’s long history of brand innovation, design leadership and leading global high-end footprint,” added Michael Wale, president of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Europe, Africa and Middle East. “Our mission is to bring great hotels in great destinations to our SPG members who make up more than half of all Starwood stays.”
Tribute Portfolio, a four-star, upper-upscale offering, aims to combine its independent feel with Starwood’s distribution, loyalty and sales platforms. Starwood is looking to grow the brand to 100 hotels by 2020, with locations in high-demand destinations.
