SuperClubs said it has sold Breezes Runaway Bay resort in Jamaica to Sagicor, which currently operates the Jewel Dunn’s River Resort & Spa, also in Jamaica. No purchase price was revealed This is the second resort sold by SuperClubs in less than a month. In late March the company said it would close Breezes Trelawney Resort & Spa pending its sale to an international hotel operator that it did not name.
SuperClubs and Sagicor said they are working together to ensure a smooth transition of ownership with no interruption to service. The property will be rebranded as the Jewel Runaway Bay Resort effective June 1, 2012. The employees of the hotel will all receive redundancy packages from Breezes and be available for re-hire by the new operators.
Richard Byles, president and CEO of Sagicor, said he sees great prospects for the property. “This acquisition increases our investment in the hospitality sector and specifically on the North Coast,” he said. “It is our intention to renovate and expand the hotel.”
Breezes Runaway Bay, located in St. Ann, Jamaica, has 266 rooms and suites all with private balconies overlooking gardens or the pool. Located just about an hour away from Montego Bay, the property is truly one Jamaica’s most celebrated all-inclusive resorts.
After the sale, SuperClubs will operate six Breezes resorts -- Breezes Grand Resort & Spa Negril in Jamaica; Breezes Bahamas; Breezes Búzios Resort & Spa in Brazil; and Breezes Varadero, Breezes Balla Costa, and Breezes Jibacoa in Cuba. The company also operators Hedonism II in Negril and operates and independently markets affiliate ROOMS resorts in Ocho Rios and Negril, as well as Jamaica’s Negril Beach Villa.
