Booking a stay shouldn't be scary. But despite all of the options to choose from and the seemingly endless booking resources available, many travelers remain wary of vacation rentals.
While a guest never truly knows what to expect when booking an accommodation, extended stays tend to stir up additional concerns.
According to a recent survey conducted by Ski.com in collaboration with Wyndham Vacation Rentals, nearly four in 10 travelers (38 percent) fear being misled by unrealistic photos of a unit and its location.
When it comes to being misled, cleanliness seems to be the biggest worry among travelers, with 26 percent expressing fear of renting a dirty unit.
Falling victim to a scam also ranks high on the list of fears, with nearly one-quarter of travelers (23 percent) indicating they fear getting ripped off when booking a vacation rental.
Meanwhile, more than one in 10 travelers (13 percent) cited one of the following as their biggest concern: A lack of housekeeping; no on-site management; disappointing amenities and a challenging check-in process.
These fears, while legitimate, aren't necessary.
Ski.com's Managing Director of Hospitality Kathy Harding says that "booking a vacation rental directly from an owner can expose travelers to unnecessary risks," pointing out that travelers are oftentimes better off seeking a professionally managed vacation rental that can promise a smooth check-in, housekeeping services and on-site management to assist with any issues.
There are many different routes travelers can take when booking a vacation rental and there are few guarantees when traveling, but a professionally managed unit is definitely the way to go for any guests who find themselves with a laundry list of fears or doubts.
