The culinary fireworks are lining up for a big bang in Los Cabos as The Cape, A Thompson Hotel, rolls toward its first anniversary celebration on July 1 and 2.
Co-hosted by Chef Carlos Salgado and Chef Enrique Olvera, The Cape’s “Exclusive Culinary Weekend” is open to hotel guests and the general public — meaning your last-minute bookers or foodies already in the destination are privy to attending the Baja-inspired culinary events.
Executive Chef Olvera of the boutique property’s Manta restaurant will share the helm with the visiting Chef Salgado, a 2016 James Beard Award semifinalist for “Best Chef: West,” 2015 Food & Wine “Best New Chef” and chef/owner of Taco Maria located in Costa Mesa, CA. Partnering with the pair will be The Cape’s dining team that includes Manta Chef de Cuisine Alex Branch.
Your clients can go for all the gourmand gusto or handpick the events they find most tempting. Among the highlights of this fare affair will be an oceanfront Tiki party on legendary Monuments Beach where the resort resides, Manta five-course tasting menu, cooking demo with Chef Salgado, and selection of Taco Maria-inspired dishes presented at The Rooftop lounge.
Friday, July 1
1:30-3 p.m. – Cooking Demonstration with Chef Olvera and Chef Salgado
The culinary weekend kicks off at The Cape’s signature Manta restaurant that wows with a nearly 360-degree coastline view. From Manta’s exhibition kitchen, the pair will interact with guests while sharing the intricacies of Taco Maria’s and Manta’s most popular dishes. The sampling of demo dishes and custom cocktails prepared by Manta’s bar team is available for $45 per person.
7-11 p.m. – Manta on the Beach
Friday evening festivities hit Monuments Beach at sunset with El Arco and the Sea of Cortez painting a stunning backdrop for the chefs as they grill local seafood specialties and roast a whole pig. The property’s award-winning Beverage Director, Osvaldo Vazquez, complements the culinary feast with Tiki-inspired cocktails, as Baja’s Pura Vida world beat band plays live tunes. Tickets are $95 per person.
Saturday, July 2
6-11 p.m. – Five-Course Prix Fixe Menu at Manta
The dynamic chef duo of Salgado and Olvera team up again at Manta for a one-night-only prix fixe menu. As they alternate in preparing courses, each provides insight into their distinctive, yet complementary takes on Mexican cuisine. Vazquez’s beverage pairings include sake, wine and cocktails. Tickets are $100 per person or $120 with beverage pairing.
10 p.m.-2 a.m. – Anniversary Party at The Rooftop
As a grand finale, the anniversary festivities flow to Cabo San Lucas’ only rooftop lounge for bites and specialty cocktails inspired by both The Cape and Taco Maria. Resident DJ Capri and guest DJ Cyril spin tunes to sync with an anniversary fireworks display. This retreat elevates the party mood with its views spanning from downtown to the Sea of Cortez, communal seating area with a fire pit, intimate cabanas and a craft beer garden pouring Baja-sourced brews. Admission to The Rooftop is complimentary, with menu served at a la carte pricing.
Again, individual events are open to hotel guests and the general public, with tickets ranging from $45-$120 per person (excluding gratuity and tax). Reservations are available by emailing email@example.com or calling 011-52-624-163-0000 (when dialing from the U.S.).

The Agent’s Edge
Since debuting in June 2015 as the first Thompson hotel in Mexico — and first outside of an urban locale — The Cape has welcomed guests to indulge in a unique environment blending Thompson’s “upscale urban aesthetic with a distinct 1960s Baja-meets-Southern-California vibe.”
Perched on the epic white-sand surfers’ paradise of Monuments Beach, the luxe hotel offers 161 guestrooms with unobstructed views of the Sea of Cortez and El Arco.
If your clients miss out on the anniversary fun, they’ll still find plenty to celebrate with the resort’s flurry of packages that include the Suite Summer Experience with suite accommodations, Endless Summer Package with dining and spa credits, 4th Night Free, Cabo Body + Soul with spa treatments, Run Away For Romance with romantic dinners and couples’ massage, and Great Escape Vacation Package with airport transfers.
They’ll also appreciate how The Cape engages with its weekly happenings and special events — Monday yoga flow classes, Tuesday cooking classes, Wednesday brew tasting in the Beer Garden, Thursday mezcal tasting at the Glass Box, Friday wine tastings at the Glass Box, Saturday Live Mix on The Rooftop, and Tuesday through Saturday Sunset Ritual on The Rooftop.
