The World's 10 Best Boutique Hotels

Although a boutique hotel may not be a traveler's first choice - especially if traveling for business - these smaller, independent properties typically boast an unrivaled charm and oftentimes unprecedented level of luxury.

While there's a boutique hotel for every type of traveler in almost every destination, Hotels.com guests recently crowned the best of the best. Upon analyzing millions of guest reviews, Hotels.com has revealed its Loved by Guests Award winners for 2016, including the best boutique properites from around the world.

Here we'll run down the list of boutique all-stars, where guests can rest assured the list of amenities extends well beyond free Wi-Fi.

Castello di Velona SPA Resort & Winery

Where: Montalcino, Italy

Italy's Castello di Velona SPA Resort & Winery features some of the most beautiful architecture inside and out. In addition to 46 guestrooms, this boutique hotel, which resembles a castle more than a hotel, boasts a full-service spa and a pair of on-site restaurants.

Guests staying here also have access to indoor and outdoor pools as well as a health club.

Hotel L'Orologio

Where: Florence, Italy

The largest hotel on this list, Florence's Hotel L'Orologio features 54 guestrooms spanning four stories. Features here include colorful guestrooms, a bar and lounge, a free breakfast buffet and a fitness center.

The Culver Hotel

Where: Culver City, California

This building was once owned by John Wayne and has hosted a plethora of celebrities and VIPs through the years.

The 46-room four-star hotel features many of the modern amenities guests have come to expect in 2016 without sacrificing its history and charm. Crystal chandeliers and custom furnishings and decor give the guestrooms a unique look and feel.

The Anglers Miami South Beach, a Kimpton Hotel

Where: Miami, Florida

If you're looking for a world-class boutique hotel in the center of the action, the Anglers Hotel in South Beach is where you'll want to be.

The 45-room luxury hotel is loaded with relaxing amenities including private hot tubs and outdoor showers that make it an ideal contrast from the non-stop nightlife nearby.

Nakamanda Resort and Spa

Where: Krabi, Thailand

Just a brief walk from Tubkaek Beach, Thailand's Nakamanda Resort and Spa is a five-star boutique equipped with a restaurant, lounge, outdoor pool, fitness center and business center (if you need to get some work done while on vacation).

Sundial Boutique Hotel

Where: Whistler, Canada

It's all about the stunning scenery at the Sundial Boutique Hotel in Canada's Whistler Village.

Enjoy gorgeous mountain views from the hotel's rooftop hot tub or get even closer with a Whistler Blackcomb mountain gondola ride.

Saint Shermin

Where: Vienna, Austria

Vienna's Saint Shermin is the smallest boutique hotel on this list, featuring just a dozen guestrooms.

Arguably the hotel's biggest draw, though, are its ultra-comfortable beds. Plus, guests here are treated to champagne upon arrival.

Hotel Bagues

Where: Barcelona, Spain

Highlights of the five-star Hotel Bagues include a rooftop terrace featuring beautiful views of Barcelona, an outdoor pool and spa services.

This museum hotel isn't short on character either. It's situated in a former palace and 19th century jewelry workshop.

Hotel Gendarm Nouveau

Where: Berlin, Germany

Guests won't have to worry about brushing up on their German before visiting Berlin's Hotel Gendarm Nouveau. After all, the staff at this 47-room boutique hotel is multilingual.

What's more, the hotel is located within short walking distance of some of the capital city's top attractions, including the Gendarmenmarkt.

Praya Palazzo

Where: Bangkok, Thailand

The second Thai hotel to win over the hearts of Hotels.com guests from around the world, Bangkok's Praya Palazzo features just 17 guestrooms but an array of amenities guests won't find anywhere else.

Examples include a lazy river and on-site car rentals.
