La Badira hotel in Tunisia, on the North African coast of the Mediterranean, has joined the Leading Hotels of the World.
The 130-room, five star property is on a small peninsula in the seaside resort of Hammamet. It was designed with Islamic architectural elements including domed ceilings, arched terraces, reflective pools, columned walkways, rich gardens with olive trees and date palms.
Though the hotel was only opened last December, the clean, simple design with broad, flat surfaces was designed to evoke 1930s architecture, hearkening back to the time when the Hammamet resort area came into vogue among international travelers.
The hotel incorporates a Spa La Badira Thémaé Paris and a 45-hole golf complex built around seven lakes on a 173-hectare plot. All rooms have an ocean view.
It has an indoor and an outdoor pool. Children under 14 are not allowed. Pets are not allowed. Wi-Fi is free in the rooms and the public areas.
The hotel offers three restaurants: Zahila, serving breakfast on a terrace overlooking water plants and lemon trees; Adra, an a la carte restaurant serving Tunisian cuisine with a view overlooking the ocean; and Kamilah, an a la carte restaurant serving Mediterranean cuisine.
