Delivering a fresh approach to luxury without ignoring W Hotels’ signature bells and whistles, W Punta de Mita has hit the beach in the exclusive Los Veneros development along Riviera Nayarit’s Pacific coastline.

Geared to trendy leisure travelers who appreciate their luxury with a dose of creativity, the 119-villa oceanfront resort joins a Mexico City property as Starwood’s second Escape brand location in Latin America and 48th W Hotel worldwide.

“We are delighted to introduce our new W Escape to Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit, a world-class destination for surf and sun, as we continue to grow the brand’s presence in this region,” said Anthony Ingham, Global Brand Leader, W Hotels Worldwide.

“W Punta de Mita brings a playfully stylish addition to this Mexican hot spot. And we are confident that with the brand’s unique lifestyle programming and cutting-edge design, it will become a must-visit destination to the new generation of jet-setters.”

“In terms of design, W really pushed the envelope further here,” said General Manager Brian Seagrave. “It reflects a bohemian surf culture and Huichol culture with minimal intrusion on the environment.”

In what Seagrave describes as “coloring outside the lines,” the resort seamlessly merges kitsch with these cultures that unroll from arrival via a nine-foot Huichol statue standing within a reflection pool. In the lobby and throughout the grounds, guests are greeted with such whimsical touches as lucha libre masks, candy skulls, papel picado folk art and mariachi instruments.

Guest rooms and suites feature modern amenities and captivating Huichol accents – not to mention breathtaking views. All Ocean and Jungle Escape Villas are decked out with a private patio or balcony, Mexican tile flooring and surfboard or punctured tin headboard. Guests can also count on W’s signature amenities and bedding.

Those opting for an Oceanfront Haven suite can gaze out from a private plunge pool to the pristine beach just steps away. Yet another decadent splurge, the lavish Extreme Wow Suite is a 4,460-square-foot retreat with swimming pool that encircles an island-style living room.

Further elevating W Hotels’ service mantra, each guest room’s telephone features a Whatever/Whenever button.  The resort’s team promptly responds with everything from transportation in Tuk Tuks sporting customized artwork by Sayulita’s Revolucion del Sueno to restocking of bath amenities.

Social Hubs

W Punta de Mita’s Living Room welcomes with a vibe that offsets pulsating energy with easygoing style. Guests begin and end the evening here socializing over cocktail amid twinkling votive candles. Nightcaps are shared as the DJ provides the soundtrack to enhance the experience.

Surrounding the pool, the WET Deck pampers with six private cabanas decked out with a flat-screen TV, fully stocked mini-bar, shower and bathroom. The hotel’s 4,000-square-foot AWAY Spa also indulges with five treatment rooms, a relaxation deck and therapy pools.

Dining is The Spice of W Life

At W Punta de Mita, dining options showcase food as more than simply fuel. Born in New York and with outposts in Doha and London, Spice Market celebrates sumptuous street fare of Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia – all inspired by Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s experiences in these Southeast Asia destinations.

Nosh is presented family-style, with plates arriving continuously throughout the meal and placed at the center of the table for everyone to share. Delectable dishes include chicken samosas with cilantro-infused yogurt, a vinegar-infused pork vindaloo, and halibut cha ca la that bursts with regional flavors.

Firmly planted in the sand, Chevicheria pours eclectic craft beers and serves ceviche from a converted 1950s Chevrolet 3800. The all-day Venazu features authentic Mexican cuisine, while The Kitchen Table can be reserved for “demonstration dinners” where guests learn how to make specialties like mole.

Perched on an island in a spring-fed lake, Mesa 1 makes it exclusive with a customized seven-course tasting menu for 12. “With the lake in the center, the resort doesn’t feel cluttered or crowded,” said Seagrave. “And the location along the beach makes it private.”

Seagrave notes that W Punta de Mita is a dream fit for those with high expectations that aren’t necessarily traditional. He adds that resort is seeing a growing number of destination weddings and group bookings for the balance of 2016 and into 2017.
