Both the coastal and inland regions of the country's southern tier have long been popular escape locales for weekenders throughout the East for many years. The region's big cities offer world-class cultural events and a holiday style all their own, while coastal resorts might see fewer guests during the troughs of the winter. That doesn't mean they slow down with the hospitality, and they often have some pretty attractive packages going on to attract off-season visitors.

This one has a validity date in early 2017, but the Sea Island resorts rarely offer discounts, so this is exciting news. In celebration of the 7th Annual RSM Classic, they're offering a third night for the price of the lowest score shot during a round of tournament play for stays in January and February. The lowest score was 61 shot by Mackenzie Hughes, so that means that third night rate is $61, and that's valid for bookings at The Cloister or The Lodge at Sea Island.
Even in the winter, enjoy Sea Island's blue tidal creeks, picturesque sand dunes, and green laurels, in addition to three championship golf courses and highly rated service.
Intro Rates and Spa Discounts at The Beach Club at Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina
The Beach Club at Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina is one of the newest properties in the portfolio of The Leading Hotels of The World, and the hotel is offering introductory rates-from $239 for weekenders and $169 for midweek guests (as Charleston is a leisure destination, the typical weekday/weekend rate changes are flipped). In addition to the introductory rates, new reservations booked through Feb. 27 will also net you 15 percent off at Estuary Spa.
Holiday travelers will enjoy complimentary evening hot chocolate in the lobby, and outdoor fire pits for roasting s'mores. The property is convenient to downtown Charleston in the historic Mount Pleasant Village and features views of the city skyline and Ravenel Bridge. Guest rooms feature custom crafted furniture with hand-painted touches in classic Lowcountry style.
Enjoy the Nutcracker at the Mandarin Oriental Atlanta
For those looking for a city break and a perennial favorite holiday ballet, the Mandarin Oriental Atlanta is offering a family package that is, in a manner of speaking, en point. In addition to the ballet, families can divide and conquer their weekend getaway with restaurant options for foodies, or a spa to pamper away the holiday stress.
In addition to luxury accommodations in Atlanta's tony Buckhead neighborhood, the package includes tickets for up to four guests to see The Nutcracker. Additional inclusions are daily American breakfast for two adults and two children, a Nutcracker-themed welcome amenity, and a souvenir from the Atlanta Ballet. The package is available for stays from Dec. 9-24 and rates start at $405. It's worth noting that this nonrefundable package must be booked at least seven days in advance of arrival.
