October is a popular month for convention travel, which often means city hotels inventory is tight and deals can become scarce. Thankfully, there are several things going on in October for hotels to observe with their guests, from Breast Cancer Awareness Month to looking ahead to the fast-approaching holiday season. Here are a couple weekend packages from cities around the country that fill the gap between value and festive seasons for weekend hotel rates.
Support Breast Cancer Awareness in New York City
The Chatwal, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Manhattan is offering “The Pink Celebration Package” in observation of Breast Cancer Awareness month. The package will include accommodation in a superior queen guestroom, a pink welcome beverage and welcome gift, a $100 spa credit to the hotel’s Red Door Spa by Elizabeth Arden, two tickets to either the Museum of Modern Art or the Central Park Zoo, and two tickets to Cirque de Soleil’s Broadway Show, Paramour.
Rates start at $795 per night plus tax and there’s a three-night minimum stay. The package is available through Oct. 31, and The Chatwal will donate 10 percent of the total revenue from the package for the month to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Escape to Twin Peaks for the Holidays
Salish Lodge & Spa, which became famous as the Great Northern Hotel in the 1990s television series Twin Peaks, has long been a weekend getaway favorite for Northwest residents. Just a 30-minute drive from Seattle, the hotel is offering a breakfast in bed package just for holiday weekenders during the months of November and December. The package includes a one-night stay, $50 dining credit for dinner or breakfast in the hotel’s magnificent dining room atop Snoqualmie Falls (which serves a side-splitting breakfast complete with “honey from heaven” poured from high above the plate) one in-room movie, and a $20 voucher for the hotel’s store, which sells a number of items including the hotel’s famous honey, which comes from an on-site apiary.
A quick scan of rates for the package found them as low as $349, available for most non-holiday dates in November and December.
Enjoy a Film Buff’s Retreat in Dallas
The Highland Dallas, Curio Collection by Hilton has rolled out a culinary-themed film program on the third Sunday of each month through November. At these events, which in 2016 feature Wes Anderson films, guests will enjoy bites by Chef John Tesar of Knife Dallas, located in the hotel, as well as barman James Slater, both themed for the film being shown. There will also be guest speakers from the film and food & beverage industries before each screening.
The package includes one or two tickets to the Sunday Cinema Series, a one night stay, a post-movie treat delivered to the room, and free parking. $10 from each ticket will benefit the Dallas Film Society. Films include "Moonrise Kingdom" on Oct. 23 and "The Grand Budapest Hotel" on Nov.13. A scan of rates found packages from $184.
