When the kids are back in school and much of the world returns to their normal routine after Labor Day, there are a few destinations around the country that are right smack in the middle of their shoulder seasons. Ski resorts typically have seasonal closures during autumn, just before the snow flies, and that means savings for off-peak travelers.
Fall into savings at Sonnenalp Hotel
Vail really starts to move once a few layers of snow have packed on the slopes, but the Colorado Rockies are just as spectacular any time of year.
For stays from Oct. 2 through Nov. 17, the Sonnenalp Hotel, part of the Leading Hotels of the World federation of properties, is offering a host of discounts. In addition to 20 percent off standard room rates (keep in mind the $35 resort fee still applies) guests will enjoy 25 percent off spa services, discounted valet parking, two complimentary five-minute oxygen bar sessions, and reduced green fees at Sonnenalp Golf Club.
Sonnenalp guests can also receive a one-year gift Leaders Club membership to enjoy benefits on their next stay.
Hike up the extras at the Westin Riverfront
Just up the road from Vail is Avon, where you’ll find the Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa at Beaver Creek Mountain. The Richard Sandoval restaurant Maya is reason enough to drop in for a visit, but for overnight guests there’s the Hike, Stay & Play package, which includes accommodations in a studio suite, a picnic backpack to keep, and a sun hat and sun screen amenity for keeping the sun exposure at minimum on those sun-baked slopes.
For those in need of some extra rejuvenation, Spa Anjali is recently refreshed and offering spa treatments inspired by the healing traditions of alpine peoples from around the world, from the Himalayas to the Alps, to Colorado’s very own Rockies.
Families can check out the resort’s new FIT Family Kits, which are stocked with footballs, cones, a kite, a jump rope, chalk, and other outdoor activities to enjoy.
Sunshine on Sale at Park Hyatt
Looking to escape to the mountains for more than just the weekend? The Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort & Spa is offering a fourth night free promotion through Nov. 18. Speaking of sun, there are plenty of opportunities to soak it up at the hotel, which has a heated year-round outdoor pool, five outdoor hot tubs underneath a mountain waterfall, expansive sun decks and outdoor dining as well as fire pits for s’more making. Kind of makes you want to take advantage of a longer weekend and stay that fourth night.
The hotel’s Spa Allegria also offers a host of treatments with local Colorado botanicals and aromatics, along with a five-step Aqua Sanitas sanctuary, based on traditional Roman baths.
For those seeking to escape during a season when these unbeatable mountain retreats aren’t crowded with skiers, fall is one of the better times to go. Just remember to take it easy on the exertion if you’re not used to the altitude, drink plenty of water, and check back here weekly for more weekend getaway deals.
