As the temperature rises, the school year begins to wind down and vacation days accumulate, peak travel season nears. And while hotel rates in most cities and states around the U.S. are likely to climb this month as hoteliers look to take advantage of increased demand, there are some places where travelers can save, even on a last-minute hotel stay.
HotelTonight has released its May 2016 forecast, pinpointing the best destinations across the U.S. for travelers looking to save on a last-minute hotel room, whether its for an unexpected business trip or a spontaneous getaway.
Weekday Savings
When it comes to the best last-minute weekday hotel deals in May, Williamsburg, Virginia, reigns as the top destination, with HotelTonight's predicted average rate coming in at just $67 per night.
Warm weather cities Orlando ($73) and Daytona Beach ($85) also crack the top five, which includes Tucson, Arizona ($79) and Tahoe, California ($85) out west.
But travelers looking to save on a last-minute weekday hotel stay this month aren't limited to the East and West Coasts. Baton Rouge, Louisiana ($88) is the seventh-cheapest destination, according to HotelTonight's latest forecast.
Another popular vacation destination, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina ($87) joins Kennebunkport, Maine ($89) and Phoenix, Arizona ($90) with an average weekday hotel deal under $100 per night.
Rounding out the top 10 is Las Vegas ($92), a destination with something to offer anyone anytime of year.

Weekend Deals
For last-minute weekend trips, though, only Tucson ($80), Orlando ($81) and Phoenix ($91) are still ranked in the top 10 for May 2016, with predicted average rates this month under $100.
Instead, an underrated college town in the Pacific Northwest, Eugene, Oregon ($77) and Florida's capital, Tallahassee represent the best places to find a last-minute weekend hotel deals this month, each boasting a predicted average rate of $77 per night.
Travelers can also expect to save on last-minute weekend stays in Vero Beach, Florida ($80), Stamford, Connecticut ($84), Raleigh, North Carolina ($86), Salt Lake City, Utah ($90) and Ashland, Oregon ($93) this month.
While travelers can find amazing deals on the day of their stay, they can also book up to seven nights out with HotelTonight.
