Wyndham Opens 1,000th Hotel in Greater China Region
The Wyndham Hotel Group announced Friday that it had officially become the first global hospitality company to own and operate 1,000 hotels in the Greater China region.
Wyndham’s focus on developing in China and the surrounding areas helped lead to the monumental milestone, and the company now has six of its 15 brands in the Greater China region. The hotels are located in 260 cities and 30 provinces in the region.
The company’s growth and expansion into the Greater China region continued over the last week as the Wyndham Hotels and Resorts brand added two more facilities to its portfolio, including the 1,000th hotel in the region.
Between the Wyndham Urumqi North (227 rooms), the Wyndham Qingdao (389 rooms) and the 250-room Ramada Plaza Changsha South—the official 1,000th Wyndham in the Greater China region—the company is opening hotels in China at a blistering pace.
Wyndham Hotel Group president and CEO Geoff Ballotti released a statement about the landmark achievement and the importance of the Chinese market:
“As the largest hotel company in the world and the leading international player in Greater China, today serves as an incredible testament to the strength of the Wyndham Hotel Group portfolio and highlights the increasing significance that China continues to play, not just for our organization but the industry as a whole. China continues to be on the rise and with a booming middle class that is traveling more and more, we believe there’s no better company as uniquely positioned as we are today to meet their evolving needs.”
After originally opening its first property in the region in 1998, the Wyndham Hotel Group really didn’t jump head first into the market until 2004. Over the last decade, though, the company’s portfolio has expanded from just a few hotels to 1,000 and counting.
To celebrate the achievement, Wyndham hosted more than 1,500 partners, guests and associates on a run and climb at Mount Tai in East China’s Shandong Province.
