The Wyndham Hotel Group opened its first hotel in East Africa, the Ramada Resort Dar es Salaam in Tanzania’s capital city. The beachfront property has 139 rooms, including 117 superior rooms, 21 executive suites and one presidential suite.
Wyndham has properties in Ghana, Nigeria and Tunisia, but its new Ramada in Tanzania is its first hotel in Africa to fall under the company’s management division.
The hotel will feature Tinga-tinga artwork and native African-flavored interior design. All rooms are equipped with free Wi-Fi, a minibar, flat screen satellite TV, and tea- and coffee-making accessories. The hotel has a swimming pool, a rooftop gym and access to Jangwani Beach. There are five food and beverage establishments on property. For conferences, there are seven meeting rooms and catering for 375 guests.
Construction began in 2009 and proceeded with high standards for sustainability. Water is heated with solar energy. Waste water is treated and reused. Low-energy LED lights are used. Anti-erosion measures were taken to protect the beach. A rooftop vegetable garden has been built and food waste will be used to create compost for the garden.
