3 Police Officers Dead After Baton Rouge Shooting

Almost a week after five police officers were shot to death in Dallas and amid protests over the fatal shooting of Alton Sterling by two Baton Rouge police officers, another shooting has claimed the lives of three police officers, this time in Baton Rouge, The Times-Picayune reported.

Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden told the newspaper that other officers were injured in the attack, which happened at about 9 a.m. Sunday at Airline and Old Hammond highways. He is unsure how many officers were wounded in the shooting. He could not give any details about the gunman or gunmen.

"It's like a nightmare all over again," Holden told The Times-Picayune.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards called the shooting "an unspeakable and unjustified attack on all of us at a time when we need unity and healing."
