For the second time in under a week, a deadly earthquake has struck the Lombok Island resort area in Indonesia, just to the north of Bali.
At least 37 are dead, according to initial reports. After the magnitude-7 earthquake shook the island on Sunday night, it was followed by a magnitude-5.2 aftershock and a tsunami warning. The shocks sent locals and tourists alike flooding into the streets and nearby fields to avoid any collapsing buildings. Search and rescue efforts are still underway.
Those on nearby Bali reported feeling the earthquake.
On July 29, just days prior, a 6.4-magnitude struck the island in roughly the same area, claiming 17 people and injuring well over 100.
Lombok Island is part of the infamous "Ring of Fire" islands and has a long history of seismic activity. Mount Rinjani National Park, home of an active volcano, is a popular tourist destination.
The island is also known for wonderful beaches, surfing, and the undeveloped Gili Islands.
