Aqua Expeditions has established a “Family Support Fund” for donations to benefit the families of the recent Aqua Amazon accident which claimed the life of numerous crew members.
Galli Zugaro, company founder and CEO has already provided support and comfort for the families, but this avenue is in addition to that, based on requests from others to be able to help in some way.
Zugaro had this to say about the creation of the fund:
"We received an overwhelming amount of love and support from former guests, friends and colleagues in the travel industry in the wake of this horrible tragedy. Many asked how they could help, so we created the fund to provide a means for those who would like to support the families."
On July 16, the Aqua Amazon was turning around and restocking when an explosion rocked the ship and caused the boat to sink. No guests were onboard. However, five crewmembers have been listed as deceased.
In all, 11 crewmembers were injured. Three have been transported to better medical care in Lima. All others have already been released and are expected to make a full recovery. Of the suppliers injured and hospitalized, two are recuperating and are expected to make a full recovery.
The company’s Aria Amazon is continuing to operate on the Amazon route, and the company is going above and beyond with safety measures to put their passengers’ mind’s at ease. The company is also fully complying with local authorities to determine the cause of the explosion.
