The body of a 25-year-old Australian tourist was found Wednesday on a beach in Brazil, The Independent reported.
Brazilian police inspector Elen Souto said in statement that was obtained by The Independent that the body had been identified as Rye Hunt. The body was discovered in Maricá, a municipality located in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro.
The electrician from Western Australia had traveled with a friend to Rio de Janeiro on May 16 and went missing May 21 after an alleged quarrel with the friend, the newspaper reported.
Hunt’s family released a statement on Facebook, saying, "It is with deep regret and sadness that clinical testing has confirmed that the body found in Marica, 25km away from Rio de Janeiro on 8 June 2016… is that of our beloved Rye Duval Hunt.”
Investigators have not determined the cause of death; however, there is speculation that Hunt and his friend had used drugs prior to arriving in Rio de Janeiro, the newspaper said.
