Body of Missing French Tourist Discovered in Nepal

Villagers have found the body of a French tourist who had gone missing in Nepal last week, the French government told The Local on Friday.

Melanie Guerin, 35, disappeared Aug. 13 and authorities are now investigating her death, the foreign ministry said in a statement obtained by The Local.

A bag carrying Guerin’s passport, clothing and a notebook were found near a highway in Syangja, which is 95 miles west of the capital of Kathmandu, The Local reported.  

According to The Indian Express, the woman’s body was decomposed beyond recognition, but her friends identified her by her hair, jewelry and clothing, Bir Bahadur Pulami, deputy superintendent of police for Syangja said. 

The victim's body was transported to Kathmandu for an autopsy, The Local reported.

Guerin had traveled to Nepal from her home in the western city of Nantes, France, to volunteer on organic farms, The Local reported.
