Due to high winds from a severe storm front that rushed across Ohio Sunday, the popular Cedar Point amusement park and the adjacent Soak City water park will be closed Monday as crews clean up the facilities.
Officials from Cedar Point expect both parks to reopen Tuesday.
According to CBS Detroit, a storm with heavy winds blew through Sandusky, Ohio, Sunday causing downed power lines and poles, as well as halting traffic on the Cedar Point Causeway. The theme park was left without power and forced to close early.
Repair and clean-up crews from Ohio Edison and local authorities arrived at the park to make repairs and return the facility to fully operational as soon as possible. An employee working on the cleanup told CBS Detroit, “It’s pretty bad, we’ll be working through the night — just trees down, trees on cars, buildings.”
Local police said there were no reported injuries, but the Cedar Point Causeway was closed while debris was cleared from the road.
Cedar Point’s official Twitter account shared more information about the park’s closure:
Due 2 the earlier storm, the CP Causeway is currently closed. Traffic to and from the park is being diverted to the Chaussee (Cedar Pt. Rd.)— Cedar Point (@cedarpoint) June 5, 2016
(1) As a result of the severe wind damage to power lines and poles on the CP Causeway, Cedar Point and Soak City will not open on 6/6.— Cedar Point (@cedarpoint) June 6, 2016
(2) Crews from Ohio Edison are working to repair Causeway power lines as quickly as possible. We anticipate we will reopen on Tuesday, 6/7.— Cedar Point (@cedarpoint) June 6, 2016
