LAX was no “Gangsta’s Paradise” for rapper Coolio on Saturday morning, when he was arrested for allegedly attempting to bring a stolen loaded gun through security, police told ABC7.

Airport police told the news station that TSA screeners stopped a 39-year-old man at an X-ray screening belt at about 10:50 a.m. after they detected a firearm in a bag he had been carrying.

But when the screeners looked inside the bag, they realized it held items that belonged to the Grammy Award-winning rapper, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey Jr., ABC7 reported. Coolio, as he is known by fans, is most famous for his 1995 song "Gangsta's Paradise" as well as more recent appearances on reality TV.

The two men were traveling together, and Ivey had already boarded the airplane by the time screeners caught the other man, ABC7 reported.

Police told the news station that Ivey, 53, admitted the bag was his when they removed him from the aircraft.

Both Ivey and the other man were arrested for possession of a stolen loaded firearm, the news station reported. They were booked at LAPD Pacific Division jail.

LAPD booking records showed that the rapper’s bail was listed as $37,308, ABC7 said.
