On Sunday, Stockholm Skavsta Airport in Sweden was the sight of a scary incident when potential traces of an explosive powder were detected on a passenger’s bag.

According to, the piece of luggage suspected of having explosives was owned by an elderly Swedish woman traveling to Poland, but when thoroughly investigated, officials found no trace of explosives in the bag.

After the initial discovery of potential explosive powder, Stockholm Skavsta Airport authorities shut down the departure lounge and evacuated the check-in area and baggage hall of the departure terminal.

The airport halted all outgoing flights while officials conducted their investigation, but arrivals were not impacted. At least three departing flights were delayed, though, by more than two hours.

As a result of the incident, the elderly woman involved in the explosives scare was questioned by local authorities and other airports across Sweden were put on high alert.

Stockholm Skavsta Airport is the country’s fifth largest air travel facility.
