Anyone who has flown on a commercial plane can attest to how frustrating it can be to travel with someone who is flatulent, but one passenger had enough and decided to write an anonymous letter to the flight attendants.

In a post on reddit, a user reported that his mother—who is a flight attendant for an unnamed airline—received the following note written on a napkin from a concerned passenger about someone sitting near them who was passing gas.

The note read, “I don't know if you can make an announcement. But if you can, you should say that whoever is farting in the areas of rows 10 to 12 should definitely see a doctor because they might have ass cancer.”

According to, the flight attendant who received the note did not follow through with the request, choosing not to call attention to the flatulent person. From a medical perspective, cabin pressure decreases at high altitude, which causes gases in the digestive tract to expand and causes more flatulence.

With more and more seats being crammed into airplanes, it’s important for passengers to be considerate of the people around them. Flying can be difficult enough, so don’t make it worse by breaking wind.
