On Sunday, a French Riviera resort town was thrown into panic that left dozens of people injured after witnesses mistook fireworks for a possible terrorist attack.

According to The Associated Press, the incident took place around 12 miles south of Nice, France, when tourists and locals heard small-scale fireworks which caused them to flee a restaurant and the surrounding area Sunday.

While initial estimates claimed around 40 people were injured, The Local is reporting that between 70-80 victims suffered injuries during the incident. The injuries vary from people trampled by the rushing crowd to those suffering wounds from broken glasses from overturned tables.

Many of the victims from Sunday’s scary incident told local media outlets that they believed there was another terrorist attack taking place and they were looking to protect themselves and their families.

Video of the incident was shared on YouTube:

France has been under a state of emergency since the attacks on Paris in November 2015 which left 130 victims dead. The area was also recently struck by another attack in Nice, which saw 85 people killed by a man who drove a truck into a crowded area following a fireworks display.
