What was supposed to be a speedy trip via the Yellow Monorail from Walt Disney World’s parking and transportation center to the Magic Kingdom turned into a lengthy ordeal for park visitors Saturday when the vehicle became stuck, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
"It was kind of bizarre the amount of time it took to get emergency crews out," passenger Jahon Pilichowski, 30, commented to the Sentinel.
Pilichowski placed the time of the stall at about 3:30pm, but Reedy Creek Fire and Rescue didn’t put in the call for assistance to Orange County Fire Rescue officials until around 5 p.m., the Sentinel said.
Since it was standing still, stuck between Disney's Contemporary Resort and Magic Kingdom, the electricity was not flowing into the cars — so there was no air conditioning.
"It became like a greenhouse as soon as it stopped," Pilichowski said to the Sentinel. "All the cars were at full capacity."
As seen in footage posted to Twitter, passengers opened emergency windows to let cooler air circulate.
Pilichowski noted to the Sentinel that only the second and third monorail cars were evacuated with a cherry picker, because those passengers had medical issues.
Everyone else got a tow back to the transportation center where they finally got off the train. No injuries were reported, according to the Sentinel.
Officials said, per the Sentinel, that a mechanical problem might have stalled the monorail.
