A Richmond, Virginia woman on a WestJet flight from Toronto to Vancouver International Airport was arrested after reportedly attacking a flight attendant Sunday.

According to Justin McElroy of, the female passenger on board WestJet Flight 701 reportedly threw a sandwich in frustration and was confronted by one of the crew members. When the stewardess told the belligerent Virginia woman that she couldn’t act that way, the passenger verbally—and then physically—attacked the crew member, punching her in the chin, per the report.

After the confrontation, passenger Darlene Jerome told, “The flight attendant walked away then. It took a little while, but flight marshals went to the phone, came up and took her from the front. They escorted her to the back of the plane.”

When the plane finally touched down at Vancouver International Airport, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police boarded WestJet Flight 701 and placed the woman under arrest.

A WestJet spokesperson told, “We can confirm that we had an incident on board one of our flights involving an unruly guest who was arrested by RCMP after striking a crew member. The matter is before the courts, we will not be making any further comments.”

Local authorities report that the perpetrator has been released from custody, but charges are still pending and the woman must appear in court.
