On Thursday, passengers aboard an American Airlines flight were evacuated from a plane on the taxiway at Palm Beach International Airport in Florida due to a reported leak.
According to CNN.com, the Federal Aviation Administration said American Airlines Flight 1822 was preparing for takeoff when the crew onboard reported a leak. The FAA didn’t expand further on what kind of leak was reported, but several passengers onboard were reportedly told more about the incident.
Flight 1822 was scheduled to depart for Philadelphia, but abandoned the flight and deployed its emergency slides to get passengers off the aircraft. Witnesses claim the flight crew believed the fluid leaking was fuel, but it was announced later that it was instead hydraulic fluid.
After the flight crew discovered the leak, emergency personnel were dispatched to the area to meet the plane and its passengers. Witnesses also claimed there was some unrest among the passengers as they left the aircraft, and they were transported by buses to the terminal.
One of the runways at Palm Beach International Airport was temporarily closed while emergency crews handled the situation.
