As Tropical Storm Erika lashed the Caribbean, several cruise ships changed itineraries as the storm hit Puerto Rico on Friday and headed on a path to the Dominican Republic, the Turks & Caicos and the Bahamas.

The National Hurricane Center said a Tropical Storm Warning was in effect for Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Southeastern Bahamas, Turks & Caicos, and Central Bahamas. A Tropical Storm Watch was in effect for the Northwestern Bahamas and the Cuban provinces of Ciego de Avila, Camaguey, Las Tunas, Holguin, and Guantanamo.

Royal Caribbean International moved up the departure of the Independence of the Seas from Port Everglades to 3 p.m. Check in and boarding will take place between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

“We encourage guests sailing on Adventures of the Seas, Enchantment of the Seas, Majesty of the Seas, Oasis of the Seas, and Freedom of the Seas monitor this website for any additional updates,” the company said.

Carnival Cruise Line amended the Carnival Ecstasy’s Aug. 28 itinerary from PortMiami to call at Nassau from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and spend the day at sea on Sunday.

Norwegian Cruise Line adjusted itineraries for three ships. The Norwegian Getaway’s Aug. 29 itinerary now includes Cozumel from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Ocho Rios from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, and Nassau from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.

Norwegian Gem’s Aug. 29 itinerary will include the Royal Naval Dockyard, Bermuda, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.

And Norwegian Sky’s Aug. 28 cruise now will call at Nassau from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Key West from noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
