Texas A&M Professor Has New Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 Theory
The disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 is one of the great mysteries in recent aviation history, but one professor from Texas A&M University has a new theory explaining why it has been so difficult to find the missing aircraft.
According to the official website of Texas A&M, mathematician and professor Dr. Goong Chen suggests that Flight 370 could have crashed into the Indian Ocean at a vertical angle and not broken into many pieces, as other planes that crash into the water have done in the past.
The lack of a debris field or oil on the surface of the ocean in the targeted search areas is a sign that the plane could have entered the water without breaking apart as much as it would have if it hit the water close to horizontally.
Dr. Chen explained his thesis on the university's website, “The true final moments of MH370 are likely to remain a mystery until someday when its black box is finally recovered and decoded. But forensics strongly supports that MH370 plunged into the ocean in a nosedive.”
MH370 is one of the saddest unsolved mysteries of the last decade. The plane carrying 239 people went missing on March 8, 2014, and search crews have been unable to discover the remains of the lost aircraft despite massive search efforts.
There have been theories about what happened to the flight—including outlandish possibilities like alien abductions—but Chen’s belief that MH370 entered the water in a nose dive, reducing the debris and oil field around the crash seems more sound than most.
