We're in the middle of the 2016 hurricane season, and the southeastern United States is digging out from the damage created by Hurricane Matthew.

TravelPulse Radio hit on the topic heavily in its premiere episode, with travAlliancemedia founder and CEO Mark Murphy coming on the show to discuss the do's and don'ts if you're traveling during the months of hurricane season.

Murphy began by talking about the most important part of booking trips during hurricane season: making sure travel insurance is part of the booking.

What if you have issues during your trip? That's where travel agents become more important than ever, Murphy said.

"Think of them as the human search engine. They are your best travel app. It's so important," he said. "They will save you so much time and money. They are the lifeline in times like this." Travel agents have leverage with suppliers and can cut through the red tape in re-routing your trip in difficult times.

"If you're planning your trip, they solve that. If you're in the middle of your trip and face peril, they are vital there," Murphy said.

Murphy also shared crucial tips for preparing and booking travel during hurricane season, including where to find the biggest bargains, making travel changes due to Mother Nature.
